This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
