Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with performances like these.”

Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
