Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the incident has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

Details of the Attack

Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises near the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the building managing the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," an official report said.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.

Key evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have have information to come forward.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their destination," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"We know he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a devastating blow."
