Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.

England have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
