The British player made it to the third stage in three of the four Grand Slams this year.

Britain's Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her final two events this season as a result of a medical condition she has been battling in recent days.

At 22 years old was scheduled to compete in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.

These plans are set to feature her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating again next season.

Raducanu required blood pressure checks while playing the initial match against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.

She again required medical attention at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.

Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the third set against Zhu because of a lower back issue that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.

Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the top 30 globally for the first time since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.

Raducanu had three match points before losing to Pegula in the third stage in last month's Beijing event.

Raducanu won 28 victories in the current season and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.

As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way then falling in three sets to the world number four Pegula.

She was coached by Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig taking over ahead of the US Open.

The first plan with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions late this year.

She mentioned that her three-day trial alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

The player was close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in August's Cincinnati tournament.

The coach also accompanied Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she reached the third round then falling to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
