Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
